Foodie Friday: Chili



As we move through married life my husband and I are working on our "Family Recipes." We're working on making, baking and creating recipes that we can love and share and pass down and I think we've found, and perfected, a chili recipe.

If you're from Texas, there are beans. If you're from Ohio, there aren't noodles but if you visit our house you can expect we'll put a lot of love into every bowl of chili we serve you.

Here's the recipe:

Ingredients:
1 pound of ground turkey
1 pound lean ground beef
1 large onion, chopped 
1 green bell pepper, chopped
4 large cloves of garlic, minced
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 (15 oz) can of black beans, drained and rinsed
1 (15 oz) can of kidney beans, drained and rinsed
2 (15 oz) cans of diced fire-roasted tomatoes
2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
1 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
1 tsp habanero pepper, finely chopped
1 tsp serano pepper, finely chopped
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 Tbsp oregano
1 1/2 Tbsp cumin
3 Tbsp chili powder
1 1/2 tsp coriander

Preparation:

Brown the ground beef and turkey in the olive oil until fully cooked. Add in the onion, garlic and bell pepper and cook until soft. Drain meat mixture once fully cooked.



In a separate large pot add the remaining ingredients and simmer on medium low heat. Once meat mixture is cooked add it to the simmering ingredients in the large pot. Stirring occasionally, allow all the ingredients to simmer at least 20 minutes.



Serve in a bowl and garnish.
