Foodie Friday: Quasi-homemade Ice Cream Sundae

I wanted to change things up a little bit and create a recipe with very few ingredients for a sweet treat. I'm pretty sure this recipe has made my marriage even better then it already was because my husband has a sweet-tooth and he LOVES the homemade whipped cream. Plus, what's there not to like about an ice cream sundae?

Ice Cream - Any Flavor you fancy (I used vanilla)
Homemade Caramel (recipe below)
  • 1 can (14oz) of condensed milk
Homemade Whipped Cream (recipe below)
  • 3/4 C. heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 C. sugar
Chocolate Bar (Godiva, Lindt, Ghirardelli...)
Any other toppings you love on your sundae

Preparation Instructions: Homemade Caramel
Remove the label from the can of condensed milk. Submerge the entire can in a pot of nearly-boiling water for four hours. Some water will evaporate, so make sure to add water to the pot throughout the four hours so that the can is always covered.

Once the four hours is over, carefully remove the can from the hot water.  


Allow the can to cool before opening. 

You have homemade creamy caramel. 

Please note, that if you'd like your caramel darker leave the can in the water another 30-60 minutes. 

Also, this would probably taste delicious in coffee :)

Preparation Instructions: Homemade Whipped Cream

Add the sugar and heavy whipping cream to a large bowl and whip with a hand-mixer until it mixture stiffens so it's the texture of whipped cream. This takes about 2 minutes at a high-speed. 

Keep going, your almost there....


And now for the fun part...dress your sundae how you like it best. 

The picture below was vanilla ice cream with homemade caramel and whipped cream then topped with shaved dark chocolate.
