Losing the Baby Weight



I'm not happy with my post-baby body. It's so different from my "relatively" tone former self. I don't know how to dress its new shape and I feel constantly at odds with the clothes in my closet.

Preparing For A Little OneThis week's topic for Preparing for a Little One linkup is, "Losing the Baby Weight" which is obviously still a work in progress for me.

I had <A> almost four months ago. I was so encouraged right after I had him, the pounds seemed to fall of while I stood still. Nursing helps you shed weight quickly and it helped me lose pounds quickly in the beginning. I was lucky enough to drop 20-25 of my 30 extra baby pounds within the first month and a half after pregnancy. I didn't run, I didn't diet, I just lost weight. Poof!

I was pretty healthy before and during my pregnancy, which also helps you lose the weight after pregnancy, but there are still five pounds of extra baggage that continue to linger, four months later. I'd really like to shed another five pound on top of that, ten total. Honestly, it's not the weight, or the number on the scale, that bothers me as much as the distribution of the weight. I've lost any semblance of tone in my tummy, and I want it back, especially for bathing suit weather.

So here's what I'm doing to drop the last 5 pounds of baby weight (plus some):

  • I joined a walking group that meets twice a week. We walk two miles and I push  <A> in the stroller for some additional resistance. Our neighborhood is pretty hilly so I at least break a sweat but it's by no means a vigorous workout.
  • I'm training for a 5K that takes place in two weeks (eek!), which I'll run all of (hopefully). I've been running off and on and while I'm not moving at an incredible pace I can jog at least 2.5 miles without stopping. I have to start somewhere right?
  • I'm going to start bootcamp once a week and I'm considering the Jullian Michael's 30 Day Shred. If you've tried it before I'd love to know your thoughts.
I haven't started any type of diet, and maybe I should, but I honestly don't think I need to go there (yet). If I do it will be Weight Watchers.

  1. Jillian Michaels is my favorite. I'm not toned by any means, but I do know that I looked good when I completed the shred last summer! You can't beat it for a 20 minute workout...she KICKS YOUR BUTT!

    baby weight. ahhh but weight watchers sounds like a good back up plan haha

  4. That is crazy awesome that you lost that much weight without even deliberately trying! I'm super jealous, because I've been home from the hospital for three months, and my weight has seriously only budged 3 or 4 pounds in that time! Now I'm really kicking my booty into gear. :)

      Best of luck on your weight lose! I'm having a really tough time shedding the last bit. I started bootcamp this week and I can hardly walk my legs are so sore. Hopefully that means I'm closer to my pre-baby jeans!
