Decorating with Owls

I've been working on sprucing up the decor around our home. I want to put some finishing touches on each of the rooms we've painted. It can be tough with a toddler because everything needs to be kid-friendly and we can't really have "things" out on coffee tables and such because anything he can reach he grabs and throws on the ground. Overall I want it create a welcoming environment with a lived-in feel.

During one of our recent trips to Pier One we ran across this beautiful Owl Wall Art and it now adorns the wall in the family room so now we're decorating with owls! I want to stay away from owls that are too cartoony and I don't want to have owl-overload but if we add some simple owl enhancements it could really bring the room together.

We have brown couches and I'm aiming for very colorful accents with red, aqua and golden yellow throughout.

Here are some awesome Owl options I found on Etsy:

Have you ever decorated a room with a theme?

Be Blessed,
Brittany

  1. I love the book ends! I've only ever used a colour theme, but I like the idea of using something like owls.

    1. Thanks so much Sara - hopefully I can do it tastefully so that it doesn't look like a zoo!

  2. I have to admit, I normally don't like decorating with owls. However, that wall art is seriously precious, and those etsy finds are super cute! You're right, if you do it in a classic way with only touches of owl here and there, it's classic! Stay away from the cartoon owls for sure! I hope you'll post again when you're finished!

    1. I completely agree Brianna! I think there's a time and place for cartoony owls - maybe a nursery or play room but not my family room :)

  3. I love the book ends and pillow! Great finds! I like that you are aware of the possibility of it being too "owl-y." The only decor themes I have going on right now are airplanes in my son's room (specifically P-38s, that my grandpa flew in WWII) and a general nature theme in our living room. So fun to finally get around to the finishing touches that really make a home complete.

    1. Wow that's incredible that your Grandfather flew in WWII and that you've incorporated that history into your son's room - LOVE ** The finishing touches are my favorite part of the project!

  4. We have a few discreet owls around our home. My husband and I discovered, while on our honeymoon, that Great Horned Owls mate for life so there are a few small pairs here and there that we've picked up. The theme of our house is equestrian-inspired, though, so I don't go too crazy on the owls!

  5. Pier 1 has a sale going on right now for most of their owl things. Love ya! Can't wait to see how it all turns out! By the way I know I am not big on Walmart, but they have tons of things on line.
